Kabula Monthly Roda at Passing Clouds

We are glad to invite the London Capoeira Community to take part to the montlhy Kabula Capoeira Roda in Passing Clouds, which is becoming one of the greatest Capoeira Rodas in London. Come and bring your friends, your enthusiasm and energy!!

This Roda de Capoeira is a especial one as it will be the farewell Roda for Master Carlão, which will be returning to Rio De Janeiro in early May. Come and join us for that.

Also we would like to ask for skilful berimbau players to bring your own berimbau on that day. We were invited to be performing some Capoeira rhythms and songs as part of the Passing Clouds Sunday Jam and this will be a unique to play capoeira music in a a very special place like Passing Clouds.

It’s not to be missed!!! Spread the world and invite your friends.

This Roda is open to the Capoeira community in London and around.

No último domingo, dia 8 de Abril a Orquestra Voadora deu um show de Brasilidade em Londres, em especial em East London, no Passing Clouds. Com um repertório eclético e acima de tudo extremamente animado e dançante, a OV provou em London, que música pode ser misturada com circo, teatro e critica!O que assistimos então, foi uma orquestra voando acima das nuvens do Passing Clouds, abrindo um espaço para o sol passar e irradiar a alegria do Rio de Janeiro sobre Dalston. Um show que segundo os Passing Cloudianos, “vai ficar na historia daquela casa noturna!”

Pandeiro Popular Brasileiro Workshop

:: 14th April – London Capoeira Angola Co-Operative

* Note that we will have two other classes with duration of one hour which will happen at the Petchey Academy, which will work as a continuation from this first one in the Co-Op. The next class will happen on the 19th and a second one on the 26th April.
On that day specific days, Kabula Class will have a duration of 3hs (1h Pandeiro Popular Brasileiro plus 2hs Capoeira training). More info soon!

** Introductory class to pandeiro popular method (digital booklet with method will be provided). Please, do bring a pen drive to copy it.

Cabula Rhtyhm with Ney de Oxóssi

Kabula :: Cabula is the name by which it was called, in Bahia, a syncretic religion that has become known in the late nineteenth century with the abolition of slavery, which are secret and religious background. It is also the name of a neighborhood of which originated from the Quilombo Cabula in Salvador City, Brazil. It’s also a percussion rhythm of “Candomblé de Angola”, rhythmic foundation of samba music from Bantu origins.

Today is São Cosme, Damião & Doum day in Brazil.

It’s a very popular time in our calendar of traditions and festivities. We devote it to the children offering little bags with sweets to them in the streets and squares pretty much everywhere in Brazil. Considering the differences between both traditions, the giving sweets aspect could be compared with the Halloween in USA and parts of  UK.

It’s also a day for eating the Carurú food, a very especial dish made with okra, praws, cashew nuts, peanuts, palm oil …

E cá estou eu, que fiquei enamorado, e me joguei de corpo e alma nesse som que vem de dentro do coração, onde nasce a emoção e escorre por nossas mãos, pés e garganta até atingir o som do LascaMão e viajar.

They say in some parts of Brazil, including here in Rio de Janeiro, when the guy falls in love he is “lascado” (which literaly means, in trouble).
That is exactly what I learned from LascaMão.
These musicians ”in love” (lascados) for percussion, which joined and invited me to integrate this group of people who are in love, studying and refining more and more their instrument skills with the full devotion of a true lover. And here I am, I was in love and threw myself, body and soul, in this sound coming from inside the heart where the emotion comes and slips through our hands, feet and throat, until it reaches“the sound of LascaMão and travels.”
