Kabula is a community organisation that aims to connect and inspire people. At the heart of our project is Capoeira Angola, an exhilarating and elegant blend of dance, play, fight and music of Afro-Brazilian origin.
Our primary aim is to harness the energy and powerful tradition of Capoeira Angola to connect diverse social groups in the Lambeth area and build a strong local community based on the KABULA Capoeira group.
We also aim to build a cultural bridge to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, where KABULA has strong links to a rich source of musical and artistic talent, including Capoeira Angola, via KABULA’S founder, Mestre Carlo Alexandre Teixeira da Silva. We hope to expose our local community to the exciting art forms and inspirational virtuoso performers that form the foundation of vibrant communities throughout Brazil.
In achieving these aims we hope to establish a strong focal point for our local community; somewhere people from all walks of life can come together for fun and enjoyment, to express themselves and to exercise body and mind. Over time we also believe KABULA can become a place where people can exchange skills, educate each other, inspire independent thought and promote positive social values, such as respect, tolerance and understanding.
We believe passionately that through Capoeira Angola, KABULA can connect and enrich our community, providing opportunity and inspiration to all.
