For the 5th time London is hosting the Frame Drumming Festival bringing together Master Pandeiro Percussionists from all corners of the World. It will be two unmissable days of activities and classes and Mestre Carlão is going to contribute to the event with a Pandeiro Master Class on Sunday, 29th, from 12h00 to 14h15.

Day 1: Sunday 29th August

Lennie Charles: Introduction to Italian Tamburello & Tammorra: 11.00 – 12.00 Basic strokes & technique’s for Tamburelli & Tammorra. Rhythms for Tammurriata &Tarantella. The workshop will also explore Latin & African rhythms on this wonderful and versatile drum. £5.00

Carlo alexandre Teixeira da Silva: Brazilian Panderio Rhythms & Samba Bloco: 12.00 – 2.15
Learning all basic strokes, tones and techniques for Panderio. Left, Right hand coordination & how to use the jingles. Exploring popular Brazilian rhythms, Samba, Baiao, Samba Reggae, Capoeira & Partido Alto. A Samba Bloco/Jam forms the second part of the workshop, taking the Panderio rhythms learnt into a larger setting using Surdo’s drums and percussion. We will be joined by a special guest Rio samba vocalist Danni Monteiro da Silva £12.50

Day 2: Bank Holiday Monday 30th August

Lennie Charles: African & Afro Caribbean Rhythms for Frame Drums. 11.30 -12.30
This workshop takes popular West African Djembe rhythms such as Kou Kou Baliksoko & Afro Caribbean rhythms from Cuba, Venezuela, and Porto Rico and applies them to the frame drum. Playing positions such lap, hand held & free hand will also be as well as explored. Basic drum strokes & tones and techniques will be covered. £5.00

Khalid Hakim: Sufi Daf. 12.30 – 1.30

Sufi Rhythms for Persian Daf. The Daf is large Persian Drum which is used in the Khangah (Temple Of Dervishes) in the Zikr (Chanting Circle) The workshop will look at Sufi rhythms & techniques on both Persian Daf & frame drums. Covering lap & hand held playing positions, Basic strokes & techniques for left and right hand, the use of the inside rings on the Persian Daf Cost £5.00

Louai Alhenawi: Rhythms of the Middle Eastern Darbuka & Riq. 2.00 – 4.00
Workshop Covers both Egyptian and Turkish playing styles on Darbuka. Basic strokes dom, tek. dynamics and tonal textures will be explored. Left & Right hand techniques, snaps, slaps etc. Advanced hand techniques, fills & ornamentation and phrasing will also be covered. Popular Middle Eastern rhythms studied & played. Workshop is suitable for all levels of playing. £12.00

Open Drum Circle 4.30 – 6.15 cost £7.00 (all hand drums welcome, bring your own if you wish)

    Would love to come to Lennie’s festival again, but will be away Sat/Sun – will try to get there on Monday if possible. Highly recommended for any rhythm lovers!
